Five films which i think should get a mention are the turkish remakes of Star Wars, Star Trek, The Wizard Of Oz, The Exocist and E.T. Ok your now most probably thinking i am making this up and why on earth did the turkish make such movies.  Well back in the 70′s and 80′s there was a political upheaval in Turkey which made it hard to get American movies With the people wanting to see these great movies the Turkish film industry took it apon themselves to make them. In the case of Star Wars and Star Trek the film has edits from the original movies even though the storys arnt the same as the original. In fact Turkish Star Wars is titled Dünyayı Kurtaran Adam 1982 (The Man Who Saves the World) and has no link to its American original. Also Turkish Star Treks is titled Turist Omer Uzay Yolunda 1973 (Ömer the Tourist in Star Trek). You know wher this one is going. The Starship Enterprise picks up a Turkish hobo in space of all places. This makes me wonder have the Turkish ever been in space? Who is Omer the Tourist and whats he doing in space. You have to watch it so find out. The music in Star Wars is not the original John Williams score. Its a mish mash of music lifted fom the Raiders Of The Lost Ark, Moonraker, Ben Hur, Flash Gordon, Battlestar Galatica, Planet Of The Apes, Silent Running and The Black Hole. I can understand why Turkish Traditional music wont fit with a sci-fi classic, but why on earth use a mix of soundtracks from other movies and not the original. Its ot as if they havent already taken shots from the orginal Star Wars movie.

As for the other three; The Wizard Of Oz, The Excosist and E.T. I have only seen clips of. Equlay as bad as Star Wars and Star Trek but they dont cut to shots from the original movies. E.T looks nothing like the original. He looks more like something my bowles passed the other morning.  Check out the Turkish Pop music in The Wizard Of Oz its a timeless and when Dorothy and all meet the Wizard of Oz for the first time hes a skull on a table with a fire infront of it. God they were using their imagination that day.

Over these films are cult classics and should be seen buy you all. If it not be for curiosity but also for entertainment. Sit back and enjoy.

I almost forgot about the Jan Svankmajer’s animated version of Alice. I remeber the first time i saw it was when i was 12. It was on channel 4 late one night. It freaked me out but at the sametime made me curiouse. I saw it again a 4 years ago it still scared me but i think that might of been becasue of the Campbells mushroom soup my mate had made.

Svankmajers version of Alice uses stop motion animation mixed with live action film and animated object. Alice goes from being a living girl to being a porcelin doll and the White Rabbit is a stuffed rabbit. And skeletons of dead animals coming to life. Its like the dark contrast to the Disney Alice, the ying to the yang and all of that.

Svankmajer says that “Animated film is about magic. I can endow real objects with a magic power of their owninvading daily life. Magic enters into quite ordinary contact with mundane things and makes reality appear doubtful.” This can also be seen his other films like Little Otik (Otesánek) (2000) where a tree stump comes alive. He has also one a version of Faust that i havent seen but i am sure its worth watching.

Back to Ealing Studios. Set in West London is where some of the best comedy’s and dramas have been produced. In the 1930s and 1940s, Ealing produced many comedies with stars such as George Formby and Will Hay.

For those of you who dont know who George Formby is he is the Lancashire lad with the banjolele singing about cleaning windows and horse racing. He also had an annoying voice but that wa part of the charm and wit of him. Will Hay is harder to explain to those of you who dont know who he is. all you need to know he was a fine British actor.

After the War Ealing Studios embarked on a series of celebrated comedies which became their hallmark. These were often lightly satirical, and were seen to reflect aspects of British character and society. The first was Hue and Cry in 1947, and the last Barnacle Bill in 1956. However, the most famous in the series were produced between 1948 and 1955. Whisky Galore! (1949), Passport to Pimlico (1949) (This is one of my all time favorites. It stars Margaret Rutherford who i love just for her jowls!), Kind Hearts and Coronets (1949), The Lavender Hill Mob (1951) (One of Alec Guinness’s best roles. Really good scene at the Eiffel Tower!), The Man in the White Suit (1951)(Another Alec Guinness Classic), The Titfield Thunderbolt (1953) and The Ladykillers (1955)(By far the best of the lot pulling together Peter Sellers and Alec Guinness in a comedy crime thriller, don’t bother watching the remake its shit). There are loads of other films made at the studios  but buy far the comedys are the best.

A tune by Delia Derbyshire.  This is one of my favorites by her. its called Here Come The Fleas. This tune was recorded in 1969 under the name of White Noise. But really it was the BBC Radiophonic Workshop try to be a band. This tune is mainly made up of samples of tape loops and early synths. Also ignore the video as its bad but listen to the tune.

Here is my top 5 of things you shouldnt listen to, watch or do whilst depressed:

1. Dont listen to nu-emocore. its to overproduced and the people singing the songs havent even started puberty.  If your going to listen to emocore then go for first wave emo. such bands as fugazi, minor threat or embrace. those guys had emotion!!!!!

2. Dont watch Requium For A Dream there is issues init which make you question your own sanity. The same goes for Pans Labryinth it always makes me cry. by the way i am not saying dont watch them. do watch them they are realy good films.

3. Dont watch films on Youtube of nuclear bomd tests from the 1950s. This will make you realise that this is the impending doom that could happen to us all. for me i have images of the world after a nuclear war looking like Scaro the home planet of the Daleks. With the last remaining humans being killed of buy large mutant insects in tin cans.

4. Dont lock yourself in yor room every night when you get in from work. This is bad! Be around people as they will take your mind of what ever is getting you down. Its good to talk about it! But if your not in the mood to socialize then do lock yourself away.

5. Stay away from Alcohol and drugs. they will depress you more and increase paranoia. i should listen to my own  advice!

well this is my bog. After many month of thinking about it and deciding it wasnt a bad idea i have got a blog. infact the real reason is because my brother got one and most of my frinds have one. so i chose to get one. Enough of the rambling. i do that alot! you have been warned!
